Laser Hair Removal

Absolute Aesthetics uses the Soprano XL laser hair removal system which is a state of the art laser hair removal system.  It is specially designed to provide a more comfortable and faster hair removal treatment.  It can be used on sensitive areas of the body, including the bikini line and face and requires fewer treatments than other laser hair removal systems.  There is minimal downtime and patients are left with silky smooth skin. 

The Soprano XL laser hair removal system works by firing out high speed pulses at a low energy.  It heats and destroys the hair follicle, preventing any further re-growth.  The inbuilt cooling system ensures that as the skin is heated, it is rapidly cooled to avoid any discomfort.

The laser fires bursts of light at the surface of the skin and this light is absorbed by the pigment in the hair shaft. Although the hair is destroyed by the heat, the surrounding tissue is protected by the cooling tip system. 
Laser hair removal is suitable predominantly for darker hair types and paler skin, although the Soprano is able to treat fairer hair than Intense Pulsed Light (see below).

Intense Pulsed Light

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) uses controlled pulses of filtered light to remove hair.  The machine fires short pulses of light which are absorbed by the pigment (melanin) in the hair.  The heat damages the hair follicle and destroys its ability to grow.

IPL is not the same as laser, although it is part of the laser family.  The main difference is that laser (Light Amplification by the Stimulated Emission of Radiation) is a technique of producing light energy of only one wavelength.  IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) uses white light which contains all the wavelengths of visible light from red to blue. However, to concentrate the treatments on different structures, filters are used to reduce certain wavelengths that are not needed for certain applications.

Therefore the IPL machine has several different, detachable heads which can be used for skin rejuvenation.  A red light attachment is used for hair removal and it is this light that heats the pigment in the hair, destroying hundreds of follicles during one pulse.

This method of treatment works better on darker hair and pale to fair skin.

Electrolysis

Electrolysis is probably the best known, longest established method of permanent hair removal.  It is a very skilled but very effective procedure for removing hair from smaller areas of the body such as the upper lip or chin.

The practitioner inserts a very fine, flexible probe into the follicle of the hair and then applies a tiny amount of electrical current which destroys the lower part of the follicle.  This prevents any more hairs growing.

As only one hair can be treated at a time, it is a time consuming process and as such is best suited for smaller areas.

Electrolysis can be used on any type of colour of hair as the technique does not rely on the absorption of melanin but cauterisation of the hair follicle.
